Education and experience
- High school diploma or GED and four years of experience in culinary, food and beverage, or a related professional area.
- Alternatively, a two-year degree from an accredited university in Culinary Arts, Hotel and Restaurant Management, or a related major, plus two years of related experience.
- Demonstrate knowledge of food safety and sanitation standards.
Culinary operations
- Assist in developing menus for cold items and manage cold-food preparation for banquets, room service, restaurants, employee cafeterias, and lounges.
- Prepare and cook food for regular service, special guests, and functions.
- Check raw and cooked food for quality, presentation, and flavor; determine presentation and create decorative displays.
- Supervise and coordinate cooks and food-preparation workers.
- Maintain sanitation, food quality, and guest satisfaction while meeting performance, budget, and team goals.
- Manage daily operations and improve service by communicating, guiding, providing feedback, and coaching as needed.
- Analyze information and results to choose solutions and solve problems; communicate with coworkers and attend relevant meetings.
