About This Role
Role Summary
The Business Development Manager is responsible for driving sustainable financial growth by forging strong relationships with clients, identifying new business opportunities, and negotiating and closing deals.
This role acts as the bridge between the company’s products/services and the market, focusing on strategic positioning, lead generation, and expanding the company's footprint.
Key Responsibilities1. Market Analysis & Strategy
- Conduct market research to identify new trends, customer needs, and competitive landscape.
- Analyze potential partner relationships and target customer segments.
- Develop a strategic business development roadmap with clear KPIs (e.g., revenue targets, pipeline growth).
2. Lead Generation & Prospecting
- Identify and qualify potential clients, partners, and channels through networking, cold outreach, and industry events.
- Generate a consistent pipeline of new business opportunities via CRM tools and social selling (e.g., LinkedIn Sales Navigator).
3. Client Relationship Management
- Build and maintain long-term, trust-based relationships with key decision-makers (C-suite, VPs).
- Act as the primary point of contact for new strategic accounts during the initial sales cycle.
- Understand client pain points and align company solutions to meet their objectives.
4. Proposal Development & Negotiation
- Lead the creation of tailored proposals, presentations, and contracts.
- Negotiate pricing, terms, and service level agreements (SLAs) to close deals profitably.
- Collaborate with legal and finance teams to finalize contracts.
5. Cross-functional Collaboration
- Work closely with marketing to design targeted campaigns and lead nurturing strategies.
- Partner with product teams to provide market feedback and influence product roadmap.
- Coordinate with delivery/operations teams to ensure smooth onboarding of new clients.
6. Performance Tracking & Reporting
- Track all business development activities and sales metrics in CRM (e.g., Salesforce, HubSpot).
- Forecast monthly, quarterly, and annual revenue streams.
- Present regular progress reports to senior leadership.
Required Skills & QualificationsHard Skills
- **Sales & Negotiation:** Proven track record of meeting/exceeding sales quotas (e.g., $1M+ ARR).
- **CRM Proficiency:** Expert in pipeline management, lead scoring, and reporting.
- **Financial Acumen:** Ability to model deal profitability, calculate customer acquisition cost (CAC), and assess lifetime value (LTV).
- **Market Research:** Skilled in using tools like ZoomInfo, Apollo.io, or SimilarWeb.
- **Contract Management:** Familiarity with NDAs, MSAs, SOWs, and basic legal clauses.
Soft Skills
- **Relationship Building:** Excellent interpersonal skills for engaging senior executives.
- **Strategic Thinking:** Ability to see the big picture and prioritize high-impact opportunities.
- **Resilience & Persistence:** Comfortable with rejection and keeping a long-term sales cycle alive.
- **Communication:** Top-notch written and verbal presentation skills (e.g., pitch decks, white papers).
- **Problem-Solving:** Creative in structuring win-win partnerships.
Education & Experience
- **Education:** Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Marketing, Economics, or related field. MBA preferred.
- **Experience:**
- 3–7 years of experience in business development, sales, or account management.
- Proven experience in a specific industry (e.g., SaaS, manufacturing, logistics, healthcare) is often required.
- Track record of successfully opening new markets or verticals.
