The Accountant oversees daily accounting operations, financial reporting, and compliance in a trading business.
Reports to the Accounts Manager.
Responsibilities
- Maintain the general ledger, prepare journal entries, reconcile accounts, and support month-end and year-end closings.
- Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in compliance with IFRS/local GAAP; support budgets, forecasts, and management reports.
- Oversee vendor invoices, payments, customer billing, aging reports, collections, and disbursements.
- Reconcile inventory accounts and ensure accurate valuation; monitor COGS, import costs, and landed costs.
- Ensure compliance with tax regulations, VAT, customs duties, and other statutory requirements; liaise with external auditors and support internal audits.
- Identify automation and process-optimization opportunities and contribute to internal controls and accounting policies.
- Guide junior accountants and collaborate with procurement, logistics, and sales teams to ensure financial accuracy.
Qualifications and requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or a related field.
- Minimum 1–3 years of UAE accounting experience; trading or distribution experience is preferred.
- Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial reporting.
- Proficiency with ERP/accounting systems such as SAP, Oracle, QuickBooks, or similar; advanced MS Excel skills.
- Analytical, organizational, and communication skills; ability to meet tight deadlines and handle multiple tasks.
