Job Description

The Urban Planner will join the urban development department in Riyadh.

The role supports the design, analysis, and technical coordination of masterplans at multiple scales.

The position contributes to sustainable urban planning initiatives.

Planning and Design Responsibilities

  • Support urban planning and master planning projects under the guidance of senior team members.
  • Develop plot parcelation, land-use plans, and development parameters.
  • Contribute to site analysis, demographic studies, and spatial assessments.
  • Develop basic 3D massing models and spatial studies for density, built form, and public realm strategies.
  • Prepare diagrams, layouts, presentations, and illustrative masterplan materials.

Coordination and Documentation

  • Coordinate with architects, landscape architects, engineers, and environmental specialists.
  • Assist with technical reports, presentations, and submission packages for client and authority review.
  • Support development control regulations, plot guidelines, and planning documentation.
  • Participate in stakeholder workshops and internal design reviews.

Sustainability and Professional Development

  • Integrate sustainability, mobility, and smart city principles into planning proposals.
  • Stay informed about emerging urban planning practices and local regulatory frameworks.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Urban Planning, Urban Design, Architecture, or a related field.
  • Five to ten years of progressive experience in urban planning focused on large-scale urban development projects.
  • Familiarity with urban planning principles, land-use planning, and development control regulations.
  • Strong urban design and conceptual design skills.

Technical Skills

  • Ability to support master plans, urban design guidelines, presentation materials, and technical reports.
  • Proficiency in CAD and Adobe applications is required.
  • Experience with 3D modeling using Rhino, Grasshopper, SketchUp, ENVI-met, or similar platforms.
  • Experience or familiarity with Revit and GIS software such as ArcGIS or QGIS is advantageous.

Knowledge and Communication

  • In-depth knowledge of Saudi Arabia's urban planning regulations and policies is advantageous.
  • Basic understanding of sustainable urban design, mobility planning, and public realm design principles.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills in English.
  • Strong graphic, visualization, analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills.
