The Third Engineer Officer reports to and understudies the Second Engineer Officer.
The officer keeps an engine-room watch or acts as duty engineer in rotation on UMS ships and may serve as Shipboard Safety Officer.
Accountabilities
- Maintain the safety of personnel under the officer's supervision.
- Be responsible for electrical systems and equipment and allocated stores and spare gear.
- Oversee electrical and mechanical maintenance and safety, and technically supervise the workforce as required.
- Carry out lawful commands and delegated duties issued by the Chief Engineer or Master.
Competencies
- Competencies include pumps, evaporators, air compressors, boiler-water testing, engine maintenance, purifiers and clarifiers, and shipboard electrical and mechanical systems.
- Other listed competencies include emergency procedures, UMS operations, generators, cargo pumps, sewage treatment, risk assessment, permit-to-work systems, and ISM requirements.
- The posting also lists crew management, multinational crews, teamwork, personal and ship safety, environmental protection, and IT experience.
Education and qualifications
- Education: Class 3.
- Written and spoken English to a high standard.
