Structural Fitter Supervisor

Role overview

Key responsibilities

• Supervise fabrication activities and assign work with clear scope, priorities, targets, quality expectations, and completion requirements.
• Provide technical guidance on preparation, assembly, alignment, fit-up, and dimensional control; review drawings and work instructions.
• Coordinate resources, monitor work progress and quality, and take corrective action where needed.
• Verify component dimensions and material identification, segregation, protection, and traceability.
• Inspect worksites for safety, quality, housekeeping, and operational compliance; resolve issues affecting delivery.
• Coordinate with engineering, quality, project management, and other disciplines; communicate status, constraints, risks, and resource needs.
• Ensure safe use of tools, equipment, lifting devices, and PPE; verify team competencies and coach team members.
• Participate in planning, coordination meetings, toolbox talks, risk assessments, and quality reviews; maintain accurate workforce, productivity, inspection, and material records.
• Promote compliance with policies, standards, safety and quality procedures, and the Code of Business Conduct; identify process improvements and support a respectful, collaborative team.

Essential qualifications and education

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline, or equivalent relevant technical and supervisory experience, is required.
• Extensive experience in structural fitting, fabrication, or related construction activities and prior supervision of fitting or fabrication teams are required.
• Strong knowledge of structural fabrication, component preparation, assembly, alignment, fit-up, and dimensional control is required.
• Ability to interpret fabrication drawings, specifications, material requirements, work instructions, and schedules is required.
• Knowledge of applicable industry standards, codes, quality requirements, and safe work practices is required.
• Experience coordinating workforce, materials, tools, equipment, and priorities in a fabrication environment is required.
• Problem-solving, leadership, communication, planning, coordination, decision-making, and stakeholder collaboration skills are required.
• A relevant technical, vocational, or trade qualification is preferred; competency certifications in structural fitting, rigging, lifting, or equipment operation are preferred where applicable.
