Role overview

Clio is hiring a Staff Product Designer for the Drafting team within Clio Work.

Own design for playbook automations that help legal professionals automate legal playbooks and draft documents across a matter.

This is a hands-on individual-contributor role focused on outcomes rather than people, with work discovered through prototyping alongside Engineering.

The role is open across the United States and Canada, excluding Quebec. Candidates near Burnaby, Calgary, or Toronto are expected in office at least twice weekly on designated Anchor Days.

What you will do

  • Lead design for playbook automations from vision and ideation through prototyping, testing, and production.
  • Design AI workflows with appropriate trust, explainability, automation, and user control.
  • Prototype continuously with Engineering as the underlying AI capability evolves.
  • Shape product direction and connect experiences across Clio Work and the wider platform.
  • Deliver accessible, polished, cohesive experiences; contribute to the design system.
  • Build support for ideas through clear storytelling and decision framing, and partner with junior designers through critique and execution.

What you bring

  • 12 or more years of Product Design experience; B2B SaaS experience is preferred, not required.
  • Direct experience shipping AI-powered features or workflows and understanding of user-centered machine learning and generative AI.
  • Experience designing complex enterprise-type desktop and web workflows, owning a product, and working across product boundaries.
  • Strong product thinking, strategic framing, and ability to set direction amid ambiguity.
  • Extensive Engineering partnership and ability to prototype and iterate rapidly.
  • In-house product-company experience and deep understanding of a specific user group.
  • Strong narrative, presentation, and buy-in-building skills.
  • Strong interaction design, information architecture, usability, and visual design craft.
  • Experience with accessibility standards such as WCAG.

Nice to have

  • Legal-sector or legal-technology experience.
  • Experience applying AI to document drafting in document-heavy sectors such as insurance or accounting.

Compensation

  • Expected annual salary range is CAD 150,400 to CAD 225,600; placement depends on geographic region, experience, and skillset.

Workplace

  • The employer describes a hybrid work environment, with local employees expected in office at least twice per week.
  • The posting identifies Burnaby, Calgary, and Toronto as nearby hubs for this role.

Benefits

  • Health, dental, and vision benefits; flexible time off with 20 days encouraged; CAD 2,000 annual counseling benefit; RRSP matching and RESP contribution.
