Role overview

Full-time, permanent Software Manager role in Ottawa with an established technology company building defence and mission-critical applications.

Lead three software groups—platform, server, and applications—with about 10 people total; own delivery, people, and engineering quality.

The hands-on leadership role focuses on team growth and execution while providing guidance on architecture and critical designs.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee day-to-day work across three software groups.
  • Coach individuals, support hiring, and grow the software team.
  • Own sprint and release planning, estimates, and delivery commitments.
  • Track scope, schedule, and risk, escalating trade-offs early.
  • Run Agile ceremonies and improve team processes and velocity.
  • Work with product, systems, hardware, and QA to turn customer requirements into roadmaps.
  • Report progress, metrics, and risks to engineering leadership.
  • Guide architecture and review critical designs while staying close to the code.

Candidate requirements

  • At least five years managing software teams of similar size.
  • Experience working with a variety of software; R&D experience is preferred.
  • Interest in on-site collaboration with the team.
  • Ability to obtain Enhanced Reliability Clearance.

Compensation
