Role overview
Build Fellow's core AI meeting assistant experience as a full-stack software engineer.
Own features from early problem definition through production, monitoring, and iteration.
Work closely with Product and Design in a fast-moving, AI-native engineering environment.
Responsibilities
- Build product features across React, TypeScript, Django, Python, GraphQL, and related systems.
- Own product areas through technical design, implementation, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
- Translate broad ideas into polished user experiences with Product and Design.
- Write tests, review code, and consider performance, reliability, and maintainability.
- Investigate user feedback and issues, find root causes, and make durable improvements.
- Create technical plans, break down ambiguous work, and make practical trade-offs.
- Use AI coding agents and help create tools, prompts, workflows, and engineering practices.
- Contribute to technical discussions, code reviews, shared practices, and future product direction.
What the role requires
- Professional experience building and shipping production software.
- Experience with modern web technologies; engineering fundamentals are more important than exact stack matching.
- Feature or project ownership beyond implementation, including design, rollout, monitoring, and iteration.
- Strong product judgment and practical problem-solving focused on user impact.
- Initiative and ability to structure ambiguous problems.
- Deep practical use of AI coding agents, with judgment to ship high-quality production code.
- Track record improving software development through agentic workflows, tools, or practices.
- Clear communication and collaboration across engineering, Product, Design, QA, and other partners.
- Ability and desire to learn quickly and contribute to a fast-moving team.
Technology and practices
- The stack includes React, TypeScript, Django, Python, GraphQL, and Relay.
- AI coding tools include Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or similar agents.
- Engineering practices include testing, code review, technical planning, monitoring, and iterative delivery.
Workplace and location
- Fellow is remote-first and works in Eastern time.
- The role is open to candidates located in Canada.
- Optional office space is available in Ottawa and Montreal.
- Remote work is available within Canada.
What Fellow offers
- Competitive compensation, health and dental coverage, prescription coverage, and life insurance.
- Twelve weeks of parental leave at 80% of salary for any parent welcoming a child.
- Three weeks of vacation, paid sick leave, and a paid company-wide year-end break.
- Learning budgets, lunch-and-learns, and ownership of work end to end.
