Role overview

Clio is seeking a Software Development Manager for its Engineering team.

The role combines people leadership, team execution, and hands-on technical contribution.

Candidates must be based in Calgary and attend the Calgary office twice weekly on anchor days.

Responsibilities

  • Partner with product and design leaders to identify opportunities and craft team roadmaps.
  • Work with the team to design technical solutions and contribute code to projects.
  • Review code and architecture documents and provide actionable technical feedback.
  • Support direct reports' career development through regular one-to-one meetings.
  • Participate in hiring and provide expertise to developers across Clio.
  • Set context and accountability for the team while adapting roadmaps to changing conditions.

Candidate qualifications

  • Demonstrated people leadership in software development, particularly for large-scale SaaS products.
  • Strong hands-on software development background and broad technical knowledge.
  • Able to discuss successful projects and lessons learned from failed projects.
  • Able to hire, coach, develop, and retain engineering talent.
  • Energized by both technical work and supporting team career growth.
  • Committed to actionable feedback, process improvement, and learning new technologies, especially AI.

Bonus experience

  • A philosophy on what makes an effective software development team is a bonus.
  • Experience with CRM products at scale is a bonus.
  • Experience with Ruby on Rails or Python is a bonus.

Compensation

  • Expected salary range is CAD 180,500 to CAD 270,700; placement depends on region, experience, and skillset.

Work arrangement

  • Hybrid work; local Calgary employees are expected in the office at least twice per week.
