Its AI-powered autonomy stack is developed by the Technology Innovation Institute for industrial and defense logistics applications, including complex off-road missions.

About the role

Design and develop software solutions for autonomous ground robotics systems.

Define the autonomous stack architecture, integrate subsystems, and advance autonomy and performance across a fleet of ground robots.

Responsibilities

  • Define modular, scalable software architecture for autonomous ground robots, focused on real-time performance.
  • Guide software design, code quality, and system security; mentor developers on architectural principles and design patterns.
  • Lead integration of perception, navigation, control, and decision-making modules.
  • Select and implement software frameworks and middleware.
  • Collaborate with algorithm engineers to deploy machine-learning, perception, and sensor-fusion algorithms on robotic platforms.
  • Lead prototypes and proof-of-concept applications to validate architectures, algorithms, and technologies.
  • Optimize architecture for real-time operation and resource-intensive components.
  • Maintain architecture documents, design specifications, and interface definitions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science or Software Engineering; strong candidates with Robotics or Mechanical Engineering degrees may also be considered.
  • 8+ years of software development experience, including at least 3 years in software architecture roles; ground robotics or autonomous systems experience is preferred.
  • Strong understanding of robotics frameworks such as ROS/ROS2, real-time systems, and distributed computing.
  • Proficiency in C++, Python, or similar, with low-level system programming and middleware experience.
  • Expertise in perception, sensor fusion, SLAM, motion planning, and control algorithms for autonomous robots.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with ability to guide technical discussions and communicate with non-technical stakeholders.

Preferred skills

  • Experience with edge computing and GPU programming for robotic platforms.
  • Familiarity with autonomous vehicle software stacks, safety standards, and compliance regulations.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies and familiarity with Git and Jira.
