Shot Blast Operator

Overview

Machine Operation

• Operate from 7 ton to 60-ton capacity shot blasting machine for Steel and Iron castings of weight from few Kgs up to 60MT, fabrications, and structural components etc.
• Load and unload heavy materials using EOT crane, forklift, or material handling systems.
• Set and adjust blasting parameters such as turbine speed, shot flow rate, blast pressure, and conveyor/rotary table speed.
• Ensure proper positioning of heavy components for uniform blasting coverage.

Quality Control

• Inspect blasted components to ensure required surface cleanliness (SA 2.5 / SA 3 standards if applicable).
• Check for complete removal of scale, rust, sand, and contaminants.
• Report surface defects or incomplete blasting to supervisor.
• Maintain blasting quality for painting, coating, or further fabrication processes.

Maintenance & Monitoring

• Monitor wear parts such as blast wheels, liners, impellers, control cages, and rubber curtains.
• Check and maintain shot/grit levels and separator efficiency.
• Perform routine cleaning and preventive maintenance of machine.
• Identify abnormal vibrations, noise, or mechanical issues and report immediately.

Safety & Compliance

• Follow all safety protocols for handling heavy components (up to 60 tons).
• Use required PPE (helmet, ear protection, gloves, safety shoes, dust mask).
• Ensure proper lockout/tagout procedures during maintenance.
• Maintain housekeeping around the blasting area.

Documentation

• Record production data, machine parameters, and maintenance activities.
• Maintain daily logbook of operations and material processed.

& Skills

• Education: ITI / Technical certification preferred.
• Minimum 2-5 years experience operating heavy shot blasting machines (preferably 3060-ton capacity).
• Experience handling heavy steel structures, castings.
• Knowledge of EOT crane operation (preferred).
• Basic understanding of mechanical systems and troubleshooting.
• Ability to read job specifications and technical drawings.
