• Casting Shop Reports to- Fettling Engineer Job Purpose The Grinding Operator is responsible for performing rough grinding and precision NDT grinding on heavy steel castings such as valves, pumps, turbine casings, impellers, and other complex heavy cast components. The role ensures removal of excess material, surface defects, and preparation of casting surfaces for inspection and final finishing while maintaining safety and quality standards. Job Responsibilities Operational Duties Carry out rough grinding of steel castings using portable grinding machines. Perform NDT grinding to prepare surfaces for MPI, DPI, UT, or RT inspection. Remove risers, fins, and extra metal as per drawing and process instructions. Handle grinding for complicated and heavy castings with dimensional awareness. Ensure proper surface finish as per quality requirements. Use correct grinding wheels and tools based on material grade and grinding application. Support rework grinding based on NDT rejection or quality observations. To maintain the tools provided, equipment & any related material in stock. Quality Responsibilities Follow work instructions, drawings, and grinding procedures. Avoid over grinding and dimensional damage to castings. Ensure casting identification and traceability during grinding operations. Coordinate with NDT and Quality teams during inspection stages. Safety Responsibilities Follow PPE requirements (face shield, gloves, safety shoes, ear protection, etc.). Ensure safe handling of heavy castings using cranes and lifting tools. Maintain housekeeping around grinding area. Report unsafe conditions, tool damages, or machine abnormalities.
