Underwriting and portfolio work
- Underwrite and analyze complex new and renewal business within delegated authority, applying underwriting rules, regulations, and rating manuals.
- Assess and qualify accounts against underwriting appetite, identify growth opportunities, calculate target prices, and manage complex submissions and annual reviews.
- Negotiate terms and conditions, close business, and cross-sell other lines to increase product density.
- Manage target-account opportunities and keep required systems updated with visit details and account status.
Customer, broker, and team support
- Build and maintain relationships with brokers, agents, and customers to support business retention and acquisition.
- Determine insurance needs, provide solutions, and act as a key contact for assigned target accounts.
- Provide technical guidance, training, and mentoring to lower-level underwriters.
- Contribute to product development, training, underwriting manuals, programs, and guidelines; address emerging issues and establish best practices.
- Resolve technical issues and provide coverage expertise to claims.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent and at least 7 years of experience in underwriting or a market-facing area.
- Primary underwriting focus on Marine Cargo, including assessment, pricing, structuring, and management of complex cargo risks and portfolios.
- Strong knowledge of underwriting philosophy, techniques, filing regulations, and guidelines.
- Ability to assess risk, work in a team, and understand quote time constraints for new and renewal business.
- Experience with Microsoft Office and strong presentation skills.
