Senior Synapse Engineer (Remote)

Role Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Build Synapse pipelines, SQL transformations, datasets, and linked services.
• Develop transformations using Synapse SQL, PySpark, or Data Flows.
• Use Synapse notebooks and pipelines, SQL, PySpark, Azure DevOps for CI/CD, and ESP scheduling.
• Tune dedicated SQL pools using partitioning, indexing, and caching.
• Implement CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps or GitHub.
• Configure data security, row-level security, access roles, and auditing.
• Optimize ADLS Gen2 folder structures, file formats, and Delta or Parquet usage.
• Collaborate with the Data Modeler to implement accurate data models.
• Monitor Synapse environments, performance, costs, and autoscaling.
• Troubleshoot ingestion, transformation, and orchestration issues.
• Provide architectural guidance and platform best practices.

Required Experience

• At least 5 years of data engineering experience with at least 3 years of Azure Synapse experience.
• Strong T-SQL, ETL/ELT pipeline development, and workload optimization experience.
• Experience migrating Alteryx, SSIS, Databricks, or equivalent ETL systems.
• Knowledge of Delta Lake, Parquet, partitioning, and schema evolution.
• CI/CD experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and environment promotion.

Preferred Skills

• Experience with retail or loyalty analytics workloads is preferred.
• Familiarity with Azure Purview or similar governance solutions is preferred.
