Meet Benevity
Benevity is the way the world does good, providing companies (and their employees) with technology to take social action on the issues they care about. Through giving, volunteering, grantmaking, employee resource groups and micro-actions, we help most of the Fortune 100 brands build better cultures and use their power for good. We’re also one of the first B Corporations in Canada, meaning we’re as committed to purpose as we are to profits. We have people working all over the world, including Canada, Spain, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States and more!
High Level Role Overview
As a Senior Staff Developer for User Identity & Access Management (UIAM), you will play a pivotal role in shaping the technical direction of our identity platform, which serves as the foundation of trust for our Fortune 100 customers and their nonprofit partners. Reporting to the Director of Engineering, you will combine hands-on full-stack engineering with architectural leadership to design and scale secure authentication, authorization, and identity lifecycles using tools like Auth0, Okta, and Ping. In our fast-paced, AI-assisted development environment, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver highly reliable, zero-trust identity solutions while mentoring peers and fostering a culture of inclusive, high-performance engineering.
What you’ll do:
Provide technical leadership for UIAM by architecting the evolution of our identity platform including authentication SSO and authorization
Design secure and scalable identity capabilities on public cloud platforms leveraging Auth0 as the core for human and M2M clients
Make AI a natural extension of your engineering practice to increase velocity and quality through secure AI-assisted development lifecycles
Partner with security teams to embed zero-trust least-privilege and secure-by-design practices aligned with modern identity standards
Collaborate closely with product managers to translate complex business and customer identity requirements into actionable technical specifications
Balance concurrent deliveries by making sound prioritization decisions that keep diverse teams aligned and unblocked
Mentor senior developers through practical hands-on examples and constructive feedback to foster an inclusive engineering culture
Create clear architectural documentation and promote industry-standard tools that improve agility and time to market
Build thoughtful proofs of concept to validate new identity access approaches and drive continuous product advancement
Participate actively in architectural reviews to ensure high quality consistency and alignment with our north-star architecture
What you’ll bring:
8+ years of scalable software development experience with at least 2 years in a technical leadership role driving platform modernization
Deep expertise in identity and access management including OAuth 20 OpenID Connect SAML JWT and SSO federation
Hands-on experience with Auth0 tenant architecture and custom actions alongside familiarity with Okta Ping and SCIM provisioning
Strong software architecture skills with an API-first approach utilizing loosely coupled systems and domain-driven design
Proficiency in object-oriented programming with a strong focus on Java and Python using frameworks like Spring Boot and FastAPI
Extensive cloud-native experience across AWS and GCP encompassing Infrastructure-as-Code DevSecOps and modern CI/CD pipelines
A strong security mindset focused on threat modeling least privilege secrets management and comprehensive audit logging
Experience with domain-driven database design and building high-availability low-latency data access for authorization decisions
Excellent communication skills with the ability to author clear architecture decision records and thoughtfully influence tool adoption
Comfort thriving in a fast-paced agile environment leveraging AI-led development practices while gracefully navigating ambiguity
