Senior Software Engineer – Test Engineering - Huntsville

Position overview

Responsibilities

• Develop and sustain software, test sequences, and automation frameworks using C++ and C#.
• Build hardware-driver wrappers and abstraction layers; implement NI TestStand sequences, step types, and automation logic.
• Debug hardware, test-equipment, software, and system-level issues; support hardware bring-up and integration.
• Collaborate on test strategy, hardware validation, and coverage; partner with systems, hardware, and manufacturing test teams.
• Manage configuration, version control, branching, and releases; participate in Agile planning and sprint activities.
• Document test procedures, test architecture, integration workflows, and release notes.

Required qualifications

• At least 5 years of professional experience and a bachelor's degree in Software Engineering, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• Strong C++ and C# skills; experience with NI TestStand and Microsoft Visual Studio.
• Experience with troubleshooting, root-cause analysis, and software integration with hardware, test equipment, or embedded systems.
• Understanding of configuration management, code versioning, and software releases; experience in Agile/Scrum teams.
• Ability to design and maintain wrappers for hardware drivers and test instrumentation; strong communication and multidisciplinary teamwork.
• An active U.S. government-issued clearance is required on the first day; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility.

Preferred qualifications

• Master's degree in an engineering discipline; experience with ATE or HIL systems.
• Familiarity with real-time or embedded systems, CI/CD, automated build servers, or test orchestration tools.
• Scripting experience with Python, PowerShell, LabVIEW scripting, or similar tools.
• Experience in rigorous-testing industries, system verification, environmental testing, or production test development.
• Ability to mentor junior engineers and contribute to test-framework strategy and process improvements.

Workplace and location

• The role is 100% onsite in Huntsville, Alabama; relocation assistance is available.
• Domestic and international travel may be required; the stated expectation is under 10%.
