About the AML Risk team
The AML Risk team builds systems and controls to detect money laundering and terrorist financing risks across Wise products and regions.
The team uses data and knowledge of criminal activity to improve detection, reduce false alerts, and avoid unnecessary customer friction.
Role responsibilities
- Design and build AML detection controls that can evolve and scale.
- Own large projects, technical roadmaps, and delivery.
- Shape product decisions by explaining customer problems and expected impact.
- Improve reliability, security, and technical quality.
- Mentor engineers and share knowledge across the team.
- Collaborate with engineers, product managers, data scientists, analysts, and AML subject matter experts.
Technology
- The primary technology stack is Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka.
- The work involves distributed services, asynchronous processing, and data at scale.
- Systems are designed for scalability, observability, privacy, security, reliability, and cost.
What the employer is looking for
- Expertise in the candidate’s technical discipline and understanding of the team’s technical and business domain.
- Ability to design systems with long-term change and scale in mind.
- Experience mentoring and coaching engineers.
- At least 5 years building backend, distributed, or data-intensive systems.
- AML or financial crime experience is preferred, but not required.
- Production experience with machine learning or large language models is preferred, but not required.
Salary
- Salary is £87,500–£111,000 GBP per year.
