Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Reliability Platform)

Role overview

What you'll do

• Own and deliver quarterly team goals and guide engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on product decisions, risks, and trade-offs.
• Identify and lead resolution of project, process, technology, and business issues.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, escalate issues, and support on-call efforts.
• Improve code review and design standards and advocate for quality and ownership.
• Provide feedback, guidance, and role-model leadership to develop team talent.

What we look for

• 4+ years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching scalable backend systems using Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web applications using declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks for automation and guidance with guardrails and citations.
• Experience planning delivery for significant features or system components with extensible designs.
• Ability to make significant changes safely in a large codebase.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Equivalent practical experience or a bachelor's degree in a related field.

Remote eligibility

• This remote role is open only to candidates residing in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, or Saskatchewan.
• Affirm is a remote-first company, though some roles may occasionally require in-person office work and new hires are invited to in-person onboarding.

Compensation

• Canadian base pay range is CAD 153,000 to CAD 213,000 per year.
• Compensation may include equity rewards, monthly health, wellness, and technology stipends, and benefits.
