Senior Software Engineer, Backend (Reliability Platform)

Role Overview

What You'll Do

• Own and deliver quarterly team goals and guide engineers through ambiguity.
• Collaborate with product management, design, and analytics on ideation, constraints, risks, and trade-offs.
• Identify project, process, technology, or business issues and lead their resolution.
• Create and monitor operational metrics, escalate issues, and support availability and on-call work.
• Improve code review and design standards and advocate for them through writing and tech talks.
• Provide feedback and guidance to develop talent on the team.

What We Look For

• At least 4 years of software engineering experience.
• Experience designing, developing, and launching backend systems at scale with Python, Kotlin, AWS, MySQL, and Kubernetes.
• Experience shipping web apps with declarative UI frameworks such as React or Vue.
• Practical use of LLMs or AI frameworks for automation and guidance with guardrails and citations.
• Ability to define technical plans for significant features or system components and write extensible, high-quality code.
• Ability to safely make significant changes in a large codebase.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills and equivalent practical experience or a related bachelor's degree.

Compensation

• Base pay for CA, WA, NY, NJ, and CT is $195,000 to $255,000 USD per year.
• Base pay for other U.S. states is $173,000 to $233,000 USD per year.
• Total compensation may include equity, monthly health, wellness, and technology stipends, and benefits.

Work Arrangement

• Affirm is a remote-first company, and most roles can be done from almost anywhere within the country of employment.
• Some positions may occasionally require in-person office work, and new hires are invited to an in-person onboarding experience.
