Role description
The Java Full Stack Engineer designs, develops, tests, deploys, enhances, and supports enterprise applications for Staples supply-chain platforms.
The work spans inventory management, order management and fulfillment, transportation, marketplace integrations, and related platforms.
Engineers work in globally distributed Agile teams across the software development lifecycle.
Key responsibilities
- Design, develop, test, and maintain enterprise applications.
- Develop scalable, high-performance REST APIs and microservices.
- Build and enhance user-facing applications using modern web technologies.
- Participate in architecture discussions, code reviews, and design reviews.
- Troubleshoot production issues and conduct root cause analysis.
- Collaborate with Product Owners, architects, QA, DevOps, and business teams.
- Apply CI/CD, automated testing, secure coding, and engineering best practices.
- Contribute to modernization and continuous platform improvements.
- Deliver user stories independently, develop enhancements, write unit-tested code, and support defect resolution.
- Participate in sprint ceremonies and analyze production issues.
Core technology stack
- Backend: Java 8, 11, and 17; Spring Boot ecosystem including MVC, Data JPA, Security, and Cloud; RESTful services and microservices.
- Databases: PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, MongoDB, Cosmos DB, and Couchbase.
- Messaging and integration: Kafka, Event Hub, Solace, and API integration.
- DevOps: GitHub, CI/CD pipelines, SonarQube, Docker, and Kubernetes.
- Delivery model: Agile/Scrum.
Required experience
- 3–5 years of software engineering experience.
- Hands-on Java and Spring Boot development experience.
- Experience developing REST APIs and backend services.
- Understanding of SQL and relational databases.
- Exposure to Agile development practices and experience with Git and source control.
Preferred experience
- Microservices architecture experience is preferred.
- Angular or React development is preferred.
- Azure, GCP, or AWS experience is preferred.
- Retail or supply-chain domain exposure is preferred.
Expected contribution
Deliver user stories independently and develop APIs, services, and application enhancements.
Write unit-tested, maintainable code; participate in sprint ceremonies and reviews.
Support defect resolution and production issue analysis.
