Job purpose
Lead procurement and supplier management for plants, growing inputs, irrigation materials, equipment, fleet, spares, and services.
Ensure the right quality, cost, and timing while following procurement policy and treating suppliers fairly and ethically.
Strategy and purchasing
- Build the annual procurement plan from approved budgets and develop category strategies across business units.
- Aggregate demand and establish framework and rate agreements for recurring purchases.
- Run the full purchasing cycle from requisition and RFQ or tender through evaluation, negotiation, and purchase order.
- Use competitive sourcing and apply delegation-of-authority requirements.
Plant imports and supplier management
- Source imported plants and pre-qualify international suppliers; join production on supplier visits, inspections, and tagging before orders are confirmed.
- Manage lead times, freight, and customs clearance; coordinate phytosanitary document checks with Biosecurity.
- Maintain the approved vendor list, review supplier performance, manage supplier contracts, claims, and disputes, and develop local suppliers where possible.
Cost, compliance, and leadership
- Track savings, price benchmarks, and spend by category and business unit.
- Enforce procurement policy, ethics, conflict-of-interest and anti-bribery controls, including ISO 37301; keep audit-ready records.
- Agree consumable reorder levels with stores and Nursery Operations to prevent stock-outs.
- Lead the procurement team, set objectives and KPIs, and support development plans.
- Improve departmental systems and practices with a focus on cost reduction, productivity, and client value.
Qualifications and experience
- Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, or Agriculture; CIPS or equivalent certification is preferred.
