Role overview

The Senior Logistics Manager manages development, coordination, and implementation of construction logistics plans across an assigned district, portfolio, geographical area, or group of construction packages.

The role turns the District Logistics Director’s strategy into coordinated delivery plans, leads Logistics Managers and supporting resources, and manages contractor interfaces, site access, traffic, haul routes, temporary facilities, risks, and operational readiness.

Logistics management

  • Implement the approved district construction logistics strategy and lead preparation and updates of district-, zone-, and package-level logistics plans.
  • Translate strategic requirements into delivery actions and programs; manage logistics across multiple projects, contractors, and work packages, allocating activities to Logistics Managers.

Access, traffic, and haul routes

  • Plan construction access, haul routes, traffic management, and staging areas; coordinate contractor access and resolve route or schedule conflicts.
  • Manage temporary roads, gates, parking, holding areas, and delivery management; ensure appropriate segregation of construction, workforce, operational, and public movements.

Contractor and stakeholder coordination

  • Lead regular logistics meetings and review contractor logistics plans, traffic-management plans, and mobilisation proposals.
  • Coordinate interfaces with infrastructure, utilities, mobility, security, safety, and operational teams; track actions, resolve issues, and escalate significant risks or decisions.

Implementation, risk, and assurance

  • Monitor contractor compliance through inspections, reviews, and assurance; coordinate corrective and preventive actions and control changes to logistics arrangements.
  • Maintain the district logistics risk and constraint register and develop mitigation and contingency plans for closures, activations, events, and phasing changes.

Readiness, reporting, and team management

  • Coordinate logistics for commissioning, asset activation, and phased handover; plan transitions from construction into testing or operation.
  • Prepare progress reports, dashboards, and executive summaries; manage and mentor Logistics Managers, support resource planning, and deputise for the District Logistics Director when required.

Qualifications and experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Logistics, Transport Planning, or a related discipline.
  • Typically 12 to 15 years of relevant experience in construction logistics, infrastructure delivery, or complex site operations.
  • Experience managing logistics across multiple contractors or construction packages, including logistics planning, access, traffic management, and haul-route coordination.
  • Ability to review contractor logistics and traffic-management plans; understanding of construction programs, phasing, risk management, and work sequencing.

Capabilities

  • Strong leadership, communication, coordination, reporting, and presentation skills.
