Join AECOM’s multidisciplinary Transmission & Distribution team as an Electrical Design Engineer or Senior Electrical Design Engineer.

Deliver practical electrical design solutions across the project lifecycle for private, industrial, transmission and distribution, and renewables projects.

The team describes its working model as flexible hybrid.

Electrical design and delivery

  • Carry out MV and LV design work to DNO standards and develop open- and closed-ring and radial-feeder network solutions.
  • Design MV and LV intake and distribution substation layouts and primary plant and equipment.
  • Develop secondary protection and control solutions using equipment scheme, circuit, and wiring diagrams.
  • Carry out cable sizing, routing, section, and termination drawings for MV and LV systems.
  • Design and model electrical systems and earthing grids, including touch, step, and transfer-potential calculations.
  • Produce SCADA, auxiliary supply, and COP metering interface designs.
  • Develop MV and LV local standby and backup power solutions with automatic and manual changeover.
  • Write technical specifications and support equipment selection and procurement.
  • Collaborate with suppliers and clients, and contribute to LV/MV system studies, network modelling, and verification.
  • Address arc-flash and blast requirements, review submissions against client scope, and participate in design reviews with the Team Lead Verifier.

Qualifications

  • Degree or relevant qualification in Electrical Engineering.
  • Knowledge of British and DNO-specific design standards.
  • A proven track record as a Trainee or Assistant Electrical Engineer, or completion of a post-degree Graduate Training programme, in a design office and/or construction environment within the Energy/Power Sector.
  • Understanding of power-system functional characteristics; ability to work collaboratively and write clear, concise documentation.

Preferred experience

  • Experience working under an engineering design governance structure.
  • Experience preparing pre-construction information, conducting design risk assessments and reviews, and knowledge of CDM regulations.
  • Experience in MV and HV cable design.

Benefits and development

  • Benefits include career development opportunities, technical practice networks, AECOM University, volunteering days, and a flexible hybrid working model.
