Senior, hands-on AWS engineer designing, building, and shipping serverless applications and APIs for enterprise clients.
Owns cloud-native technical delivery from design through production, with responsibility for secure, scalable, cost-efficient solutions.
Works with architects, product teams, client stakeholders, and fellow engineers; may lead client engagements and mentor engineers.
Location and flexibility
- Work remotely from within the United States or Canada, or from listed North American offices in Charlottesville, Durham, Columbus, Boston, Toronto, or Vancouver.
- The role may involve up to 25% travel annually.
Responsibilities
- Build event-driven serverless applications with AWS Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, and DynamoDB.
- Design and document secure, versioned REST and GraphQL APIs using API Gateway or AppSync.
- Write tested Python or Node.js/TypeScript code; manage infrastructure as code and CI/CD pipelines.
- Apply AWS security, reliability, and observability practices, including IAM least privilege, encryption, secrets management, CloudWatch, and X-Ray.
- Optimize performance and cost, troubleshoot production issues, and improve systems after launch.
- Work with clients and internal teams on discovery, design, estimates, technical solutions, progress, and risks.
- Mentor engineers and contribute reusable patterns and standards; integrate with enterprise platforms, including contact center systems where applicable.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of professional software engineering experience, including 4+ years building and operating production AWS applications.
- Hands-on AWS serverless experience with Lambda, API Gateway, Step Functions, EventBridge, SQS, SNS, DynamoDB, and S3.
- Strong Python or Node.js/TypeScript skills; scalable APIs and event-driven architectures.
- Infrastructure-as-code experience with AWS CDK, CloudFormation, SAM, or Terraform, and CI/CD tooling.
- Knowledge of AWS security, monitoring, logging, tracing, software design, testing, and performance optimization.
- Excellent client-facing communication and comfort working in consulting or professional services; ability to travel occasionally.
- AWS certifications are an asset. Amazon Connect, contact center solutions, and conversational AI services are nice to have.
Compensation
- Listed compensation range is $113K–$133K; the source does not state a pay cadence.
