Responsibilities

  • Gather stakeholder requirements and define modeling standards, naming conventions, and best practices.
  • Implement models with data engineers in Snowflake and other data platforms; maintain Power BI semantic models.
  • Review models for performance, scalability, and maintainability; support governance, lineage, and traceability.
  • Document models with entity relationship diagrams, data dictionaries, and metadata.
  • Partner with Data Quality and Data Governance teams to ensure model integrity and consistency.
  • Evolve models for new requirements and data sources; guide and review engineering changes.
  • Keep current with dimensional modeling and data vault methodologies.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
  • 5+ years in data modeling, data architecture, or data engineering.
  • Expertise in dimensional modeling, normalization, and data vault methodologies.
  • Advanced SQL and hands-on experience with cloud data platforms such as Snowflake.
  • Experience designing semantic models for BI tools such as Power BI; familiarity with tools such as dbt.
  • Understanding of data warehousing, ETL/ELT, data governance, and normalized versus denormalized model trade-offs.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, communication, project-management, and cross-functional collaboration skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience with ERwin, ER/Studio, or similar modeling tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with AI/ML use cases and feature engineering, financial services or regulated industries, and data catalog or metadata tools is preferred.
  • Relevant data modeling or data architecture certifications are preferred.
