Senior Accountant

Overview

Job Summary

Key Responsibilities

• Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including general ledger, accounts payable, accounts receivable, banking, and cash flow monitoring.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports for management review.
• Maintain accurate accounting records and ensure all transactions are properly recorded and supported.
• Supervise invoicing, supplier payments, customer receipts, credit control, and expense bookings.
• Perform bank reconciliations, supplier reconciliations, customer reconciliations, and intercompany reconciliations where applicable.
• Monitor petty cash, cash handling, and daily sales reconciliations from POS and other sales channels.
• Review inventory-related accounting entries and coordinate with operations on stock movement, shrinkage, and valuation issues.
• Prepare schedules and supporting documents for VAT, tax, audit, and other compliance requirements.
• Coordinate with external auditors, tax consultants, banks, and regulatory bodies when required.
• Support budgeting, forecasting, cost control, and profitability analysis.
• Ensure timely month-end and year-end closing of accounts.
• Implement and maintain internal controls to safeguard company assets and reduce errors or fraud risk.
• Review accounting processes and recommend improvements for efficiency and accuracy.
• Supervise junior accounting staff and ensure proper task allocation and follow-up.
• Assist management with financial analysis, business performance reports, and decision-making support.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
• Minimum **4–7 years** of accounting experience, preferably in the UAE.
• Strong knowledge of financial reporting, reconciliations, payable/receivable management, and cash flow control.
• Experience in trading, retail, supermarket, food, or distribution businesses is highly preferred.
• Good knowledge of VAT documentation, audit preparation, and compliance support.
• Proficiency in accounting software such as Tally, Zoho Books, QuickBooks, Odoo, SAP, or similar systems.
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
• Good understanding of inventory accounting and margin analysis.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and confidentiality.
• Good English communication skills; Arabic or Hindi/Urdu is an advantage.

Preferred Qualifications

• UAE experience in a similar senior accounting role.
• Professional accounting qualification is an advantage.
• Experience handling multi-branch or high-volume daily transaction environments.
• Ability to lead and supervise junior accounts staff.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
