Role overview

The Crossley Lab is recruiting a postdoctoral researcher to investigate how RNA-DNA hybrids contribute to human disease and could inform cancer diagnosis and treatment.

The research programme is supported by long-term funding from Cancer Research UK and the Wellcome Trust.

Research opportunities

  • Study pathological R-loops and their effects on genome stability in cancer and neurodegeneration.
  • Investigate cytoplasmic RNA-DNA hybrids in innate immune signalling.
  • Study extracellular RNA-DNA hybrid release and communication between cells.
  • Use genomics and computational approaches to study RNA-DNA hybrids in cellular and patient-derived samples.

Research approaches

  • The group offers opportunities to develop and apply long-read sequencing, proteomics, quantitative imaging, and functional genomics.

About you

  • A PhD in a relevant discipline, awarded or submitted before appointment.
  • A strong interest in cancer biology, genome biology, RNA biology, immunology, computational biology, or a related field.
  • Excellent scientific, communication, and collaborative skills.
  • Researchers with experimental, computational, or combined backgrounds are welcome.

Research environment

  • Support is available for publications, fellowship applications, and career development.
  • Researchers have access to specialist facilities, high-performance computing, and training.
  • The group works in a collaborative research environment on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

Fixed-term funding

  • Funding for the post is available for two years in the first instance.
