Job Description

The Engineering Requirements Unit at the United Arab Emirates University is seeking a Research Assistant to support an active research laboratory in the College of Engineering.

The research assistant will contribute to multiple ongoing and upcoming research projects spanning nanomaterials, polymer engineering, drug-delivery systems, and other chemical engineering topics.

The candidate should have a solid background in chemical engineering/ biotechnology fundamentals, hands-on laboratory experience, and the ability to operate and analyze data from standard analytical instrumentation.

The research assistant will be responsible for executing experimental work, characterizing materials, analyzing data, maintaining laboratory operations, and contributing to the preparation of manuscripts for peer-reviewed publication.

Minimum Qualification

  • A MSc degree (Chemical Engineering/ materials science/ biotechnology or a closely related discipline) supplemented with documented evidence to support the following:
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in synthesis and/or characterization of materials
  • Ability to operate standard analytical instrumentation (e.g., UV-Vis, FTIR, XRD, HPLC, GC, or equivalent) and interpret the data
  • Good technical writing and scientific documentation skills (English)
  • Strong attention to detail, rigorous record-keeping, and quantitative data analysis (Excel; preferably also GraphPad Prism, MATLAB or Python)
  • Flexible approach and initiative in executing the role

Preferred Qualification

  • Prior experience in one or more of: nanomaterials, polymeric systems, drug-delivery, hydrogels, or stimuli-responsive materials
  • Documented record of authorship in at least one peer-reviewed publication or indexed conference proceeding
  • Experience operating in shared core facilities (NMR, rheometer)
  • Experience with kinetic or reaction–diffusion modeling and data fitting
  • Demonstrable willingness to support broad laboratory work and adapt across project areas
  • Commitment to provide a safe and healthy workplace and adhere to UAEU biosafety and chemical-safety protocols
