Role overview

Senior SAP functional lead for a mission-critical AMS engagement supporting a defense customer in the UAE.

Own integrated manufacturing, maintenance, quality, and safety processes while supporting production stability, asset readiness, compliance, security, confidentiality, and auditability.

Primary modules are SAP PP, PM/EAM, QM, and EHS; the role includes functional leadership, L2/L3 support, solution governance, and continuous improvement.

Functional leadership and AMS duties

  • Lead the PP, PM/EAM, QM, and EHS track and serve as senior escalation point for complex production, maintenance, quality, safety, and cross-functional issues.
  • Provide L2/L3 support for incidents, requests, problems, and minor enhancements according to SLAs, priorities, escalation procedures, and ITIL-based processes.
  • Own triage, root-cause analysis, permanent correction, preventive action, validation, and knowledge capture.
  • Translate business needs into fit-to-standard solutions, designs, configuration, specifications, estimates, tests, deployment plans, and support documentation.
  • Govern change requests from impact assessment and design through testing, approvals, transport, deployment, and stabilization.
  • Lead unit, integration, regression, and user acceptance testing; maintain test evidence, defect closure, sign-off, and traceability.
  • Monitor tickets, failures, backlog, interfaces, batch jobs, master data, and process bottlenecks; drive service improvements and automation.
  • Coordinate with business owners and manufacturing, maintenance, quality, HSE, supply chain, engineering, security, Basis, ABAP, integration, data, and infrastructure teams.
  • Lead work allocation, quality reviews, shift handovers, knowledge transfer, and mentoring across onsite and offshore teams.
  • Maintain runbooks, SOPs, specifications, configuration records, known-error articles, release notes, support guides, and audit evidence.
  • Participate in service reviews, incident forums, change advisory boards, problem reviews, and continual-improvement planning; provide on-call support when required.

Module and process expertise

  • PP includes production master data, demand and capacity planning, MRP, scheduling, shop-floor control, production orders, confirmations, backflushing, and variance analysis.
  • PP scenarios include make-to-stock, make-to-order, engineer-to-order, repetitive, discrete, and project-oriented manufacturing, as applicable.
  • PP processes include batch and serial traceability, engineering-change impacts, subcontracting, rework, scrap, yield, reporting, and integration with MM, SD, QM, PM, PS, EWM/WM, MES, and FI/CO.
  • PM/EAM includes technical objects, equipment, maintenance plans, corrective, preventive, predictive, condition-based, breakdown, refurbishment, and shutdown maintenance.
  • PM/EAM processes include notifications, work orders, planning, scheduling, materials, services, confirmations, costing, settlement, reliability, spares, calibration, and performance reporting.
  • QM includes inspection planning and execution, inspection plans, sampling, results, usage decisions, defects, notifications, nonconformance, corrective actions, certificates, traceability, and audit support.
  • EHS includes incidents, risk assessments, hazard analysis, safety observations, workplace inspections, permit-to-work, hazardous materials, waste, environmental and occupational-health processes, and compliance reporting.
  • AMS leadership includes SLA/KPI performance, major incidents, monitoring, known errors, release readiness, service reporting, resource coverage, and improvement roadmaps.

Experience and qualifications

  • 15–18 years of SAP functional consulting and delivery experience, with substantial hands-on PP, PM/EAM, QM, and EHS expertise.
  • Proven leadership of integrated manufacturing, asset-management, quality, and safety workstreams in large enterprises.
  • Strong AMS experience across L2/L3 support, incident and problem management, change and release management, minor enhancements, service governance, and continual improvement.
  • Experience supporting SAP S/4HANA and/or ECC in complex, highly available, multi-entity or multi-site landscapes.
  • At least three end-to-end implementation, rollout, conversion, or major enhancement engagements, plus sustained production-support experience.
  • Strong integration knowledge across MM, SD, PS, EWM/WM, MES, FI/CO, procurement, and external operational systems.
  • Experience preparing functional designs, specifications, configuration documents, test scripts, SOPs, runbooks, training materials, and audit evidence.
  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Engineering, Manufacturing, Information Technology, Business, or a related discipline.
  • Excellent English communication, workshop facilitation, stakeholder management, analytical thinking, documentation, and decision-making skills.

Preferred qualifications

  • SAP certification in S/4HANA Manufacturing, Asset Management, Quality Management, EHS, or a related solution area is preferred.
  • ITIL Foundation or higher certification and practical experience in mature IT service-management environments are preferred.
  • Exposure to SAP Fiori, SAP Cloud ALM, SAP Solution Manager, mobile maintenance, MES integration, analytics, workflow, and automation is preferred.
  • Knowledge of ISO-aligned quality, environmental, occupational-health-and-safety, asset-management, and information-security systems is preferred.
  • UAE/GCC customer experience and multicultural onsite-offshore delivery experience are preferred; Arabic is advantageous.
  • Experience in defense, aerospace, government, aviation, critical infrastructure, or another highly regulated environment is strongly preferred.

Work setting and security

  • Work from approved UAE customer or delivery locations and support UAE business hours, manufacturing shifts, and on-call coverage as required.
  • Follow customer confidentiality, information-classification, need-to-know, least-privilege, segregation-of-duties, secure-access, and controlled-change requirements.
  • Use authorized applications, repositories, devices, communication channels, and locations for customer operational data.
  • Maintain auditable records and support security reviews, access recertification, vulnerability remediation, audits, evidence collection, and compliance attestations.
  • Protect continuity during critical incidents, production cycles, maintenance windows, shutdowns, audits, and planned releases.

Success measures

Meet SLA/KPI commitments and effectively own critical issues.

Improve production stability, asset availability, maintenance execution, quality performance, safety compliance, and user experience.

Reduce recurring incidents, aged backlog, manual effort, and avoidable disruption.

Deliver successful changes with complete testing, approvals, documentation, and minimal regression.

Complete timely root-cause analysis, preventive actions, service improvements, and measurable automation benefits.

Build team capability and stakeholder confidence and maintain audit-ready operational evidence.
