Principal Software Engineer - TCMA (Onsite)

Role overview

Software architecture and delivery

• Apply military waveform expertise to create cost-effective radio control software architectures.
• Capture, analyze, decompose, translate, and create requirements for complex systems, including clean-sheet designs.
• Lead or review technical proposals and participate as a subject matter expert in peer, design, and customer reviews.
• Provide software engineering expertise to Agile development teams and ensure products meet company, business-unit, and customer requirements.
• Develop incremental team plans to meet program milestones and manage performance against scope, schedule, and budget.
• Identify and resolve impediments to support team productivity; ensure compliance with certification requirements.

Technical and team leadership

• Present and support technical discussions for internal and external stakeholders and represent customer needs in internal planning.
• Provide feedback, recognize performance, hold team members accountable, and assign projects that develop their skills.
• Monitor industry trends and lead continuous-improvement initiatives; identify technical knowledge gaps and develop training.

Required qualifications

• Typically, a STEM degree and at least 8 years of relevant experience, or an advanced degree in a related field and at least 5 years of experience.
• Must be able to obtain a U.S. Department of Defense security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required for clearance eligibility, and an active existing clearance is required after day one.
• Experience presenting technical data to senior management and advising senior leadership on strategic technical imperatives.
• Experience mentoring or leading junior engineers and supporting strategies to improve software engineering processes.
• Experience with engineering tools such as JAMA, DOORS, ALM, or JIRA.
• Ability to travel domestically up to 10%.

Preferred qualifications

• Real-time, multithreaded embedded application development, especially with LynxOS and PowerPC architectures, is highly desired.
• Preferred experience includes Control Account Management, surveillance standards, DO-178 DAL-C, Pro Line Fusion Display, Mil-Std-1553B, Ethernet TCP/UDP, and military radio or surveillance.
• Preferred experience includes C, C++, or Java; defense software lifecycle processes; military or government programs; customer presentations; and bid or technical proposal preparation.
• Familiarity with model-based systems engineering and tools such as Magic Draw CAMEO or Enterprise Architect is preferred.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and a positive, self-motivated approach are preferred.
