The Principal Data Analyst leads analytical capability and data practices while also delivering analysis as needed.

Role responsibilities

  • Coach and provide professional oversight of programme analysis, including data collection, governance and visualisation.
  • Deliver high-quality data analysis as needed and produce advanced analysis and visualisation for the programme.
  • Set strategic analytical direction and build capability with the Head of Analysis and Evaluation.
  • Assure data-analysis quality across complex place-based projects and multidisciplinary teams.
  • Implement standards, processes and structures for effective data preparation, management and use.
  • Influence programme decisions, improve data practices and represent the data analyst community and programme externally.
  • Identify opportunities to use data analysis across the programme ecosystem and share work openly.

Skills and experience

  • Experience leading a high-performing analysis team and creating a psychologically safe, inclusive team culture.
  • Experience supporting others' professional development.
  • Ability to develop and guide others in statistical and analytical techniques, including quantitative analysis in mixed-methods research.
  • Experience assuring the quality of statistical techniques and analytical outputs and improving practices.
  • Ability to communicate complex analysis clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.

Travel

  • The role requires travel within the UK to work closely with local partners.

Salary and allowance

  • Salary range is £71,734–£83,355, with national and London bands; offers above the band minimum depend on skills and experience assessment.
  • A specialist pay allowance and DDaT allowance may be available, subject to assessment.
  • The role includes a Civil Service Pension with an employer contribution of 28.97%.

Contract and working pattern

  • Fixed-term appointment until March 2028; the listed contract options also include loan and secondment.
  • Full-time, with flexible working.
