Role overview

Principal analyst in the Multimodal and Road Freight Analysis team within the Freight and Borders Analysis division.

Lead a step change in the Department for Transport's freight modelling capability and support policy and investment decisions.

The role is based in a multidisciplinary analytical team working with policy teams and analysts across the department.

Responsibilities

  • Co-lead development of the in-house National Freight Model with the Transport Appraisal and Strategic Modelling team.
  • Manage a multi-million-pound modelling programme and lead external contracts to meet strategic objectives.
  • Lead the model's data strategy, including innovative datasets on light goods vehicles, port inland movements, and commodity flows.
  • Identify data needs and manage collection and procurement of datasets.
  • Coordinate internal and external data inputs to support a new freight evidence base.
  • Promote evidence and analysis in policy and engage senior policy and analytical colleagues.

Compensation

  • Salary is listed as £59,816 nationally and £64,515 in London.
  • Applicants may be eligible for an annual £5,000 analyst retention allowance, paid monthly and subject to regular review.
  • Civil Service Pension employer contribution is 28.97%.
