Overview

  • As part of a multi-grant research programme, we have a Postdoctoral Research Fellow position available in Genomic Epidemiology and Pathogen Genomics.
  • The successful candidate will lead large-scale genomic epidemiology analyses of bacterial and viral pathogens, applying whole-genome sequencing and genomic surveillance approaches to investigate pathogen evolution, transmission dynamics, and antimicrobial resistance where applicable.
  • The role will include comparative genomics, phylogenetics, outbreak investigation, and the tracking of clinically important bacterial lineages, viral variants, and antimicrobial resistance plasmids across human, animal, food, and environmental (One Health) settings.
  • The successful applicant will contribute to the development of integrated genomic surveillance frameworks that support public health, infection prevention, pandemic preparedness, and antimicrobial resistance control.
  • The candidate will also support existing PhD students in these areas and work closely with a second lab-based Post doc and collectively ensure all pathogens are sequenced to deliver the objectives of both these important projects.
  • We expect this post doc position to work closely and collaboratively and our 2nd project postdoc to deliver these main projects and be involved in any other analyses their collective supervisors deem necessary for the research goals of the Infection Unit to be driven forward
  • We expect a successful candidate to collaborate with the Infection Research Unit faculty to enhance their skill sets and lead to their scientific development across a range of pathogen related studies.
  • PhD from a reputable university in Genomics or related discipline
  • Experience of undertaking assigned research tasks and starting to manage own workload
  • A willingness to contribute to a collaborative and supportive team culture
  • Excellent English language communication skills (verbal and written)
  • Ability to function as part of a team working on multiple tasks with competing demands and deadlines
  • Well-developed reasoning and problem-solving skills
