Platform Engineer

About the role

Responsibilities

• Design and maintain reusable Terraform modules and infrastructure-as-code; manage state, environment separation, versioning and changes.
• Use Ansible for configuration management, provisioning and automation; develop and maintain Bicep templates for Azure where appropriate.
• Integrate infrastructure deployment and validation into CI/CD pipelines; build and support cloud networking, compute, storage, identity and monitoring.
• Apply security controls, access policies and governance; troubleshoot deployment failures, configuration drift and platform issues.
• Improve availability, performance and cost efficiency; maintain documentation, runbooks and engineering standards.
• Review infrastructure code and mentor other engineers.

Required skills and experience

• Experience in platform engineering, cloud infrastructure or infrastructure automation.
• Advanced hands-on Terraform experience, including reusable modules, remote state, state locking and multi-environment deployments.
• Practical experience with Ansible playbooks, roles and configuration management, and experience developing or maintaining Bicep templates.
• Strong understanding of cloud networking, identity, security, compute and storage; experience with Git, pull requests and CI/CD pipelines.
• Ability to troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues, communicate technical decisions clearly, and handle secrets and credentials securely in automation workflows.

Desirable experience

• Hands-on Microsoft Azure experience, including Azure networking, virtual machines, storage, Entra ID, RBAC and Azure Monitor.
• Azure landing zones, Azure Policy, enterprise cloud governance, Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions.
• PowerShell, Python or Bash scripting; Docker, Kubernetes or Azure Kubernetes Service; relevant Terraform or Microsoft Azure certifications.
