Platform Engineer

About the role

Infrastructure and release engineering

• Design, deploy, and maintain highly available cloud infrastructure and scalable environments.
• Manage AWS services including ECS, EC2, RDS, VPC, CloudFront, Route53, IAM, WAF, S3, and Secrets Manager; optimize cost and performance.
• Build disaster recovery and backup strategies.
• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines and automate build, testing, and deployment processes.
• Implement blue/green and rolling deployments and manage staging and production releases with minimal downtime.

Platform operations and observability

• Own the production backend environment and proactively monitor application health and resolve production issues.
• Manage application servers, reverse proxies, load balancers, and container orchestration; support developers with troubleshooting and maintain uptime SLAs.
• Build centralized monitoring, alerting, dashboards, logging, and application performance monitoring using tools such as Grafana, Prometheus, or CloudWatch.
• Conduct root cause analysis after incidents and improve observability across services.

Databases, security, and networking

• Manage PostgreSQL performance, replication, backups, recovery, upgrades, maintenance, data integrity, and security.
• Implement infrastructure security practices; manage IAM roles, permissions, SSL certificates, and secrets; assess vulnerabilities and maintain patches.
• Configure VPC networking, VPNs, firewalls, NAT gateways, and security groups; troubleshoot connectivity and optimize network performance.

Automation and reliability

• Automate repetitive operational work, infrastructure provisioning, deployments, and operational scripts.
• Maintain platform availability and define and monitor SLAs, SLOs, and operational metrics.
• Respond to incidents, conduct post-incident reviews, and drive reliability improvements.
• Work with backend engineers on architecture and deployments, support production troubleshooting, review infrastructure needs, and establish engineering operations practices.

Required skills and experience

• 5+ years in DevOps, Platform Engineering, or Site Reliability Engineering.
• Strong Linux administration and networking fundamentals; expert Docker and Kubernetes knowledge; extensive AWS experience.
• PostgreSQL administration, CI/CD pipeline development, and high-availability production systems experience.
• Monitoring platform experience such as Prometheus, Grafana, CloudWatch, or Datadog.
• Strong Bash and Python scripting, troubleshooting, and debugging skills.
• Familiarity with reverse proxies such as Nginx or Traefik and understanding of security best practices.

Nice to have

• Experience with FastAPI or Python backend environments.
• Experience with Redis, RabbitMQ, Kafka, or NATS.
• Experience operating payment systems or financial infrastructure.
• Experience with OpenSearch or Elasticsearch.
• Multi-region cloud deployment experience.

Success in the first six months

• Own and maintain Udrive's production infrastructure.
• Improve deployment reliability and reduce deployment time.
• Increase observability and monitoring coverage and reduce incidents through automation and proactive monitoring.
• Improve disaster recovery readiness and optimize cloud costs without sacrificing reliability.
• Establish operational standards and documentation for the engineering organization.
