Shift handover and equipment checks
- Inquire with the previous-shift roller about mill conditions and job-related issues from the preceding shift.
- Inspect hand tools, clean off oil or grease, and report damaged or missing tools to the shift in-charge.
- Check measuring devices for damage and confirm their calibration due dates.
Mill preparation and safety
- Ensure required spares are available, including water and lubrication hoses, C-clamps, and clamp fastening bolts and nuts; report shortages to the shift in-charge.
- Ensure spare guides are available on the shop floor.
- Check roll-cooling water for sufficient flow and blocked nozzles.
- Check and tighten loose guides.
- Inform the shift in-charge about unsafe conditions.
Preparation and progression
After an 18-month preparation period, promotion to Senior Intermediate Roller may follow effective job handling, department recommendation, and an available organizational-chart vacancy.
