Role overview

Responsibilities

• Develop 3D surface models for products, components, assemblies, and engineering applications, including complex Class-A and freeform surfaces.
• Translate sketches, concepts, engineering requirements, scan data, and references into accurate digital models.
• Refine geometry to meet aesthetic, functional, dimensional, and manufacturing standards; validate curvature, continuity, and geometry.
• Create and maintain CAD models, assemblies, engineering drawings, files, revisions, and technical documentation.
• Collaborate with design, engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams; participate in design reviews and recommend improvements.
• Support reverse engineering and surface reconstruction using scan data where required.
• Prepare models for tooling, prototyping, manufacturing, simulation, and production; ensure GD&T and tolerance requirements are met.
• Modify and optimize models in response to engineering changes, testing, customer feedback, or manufacturing requirements.
• Support prototype development, design validation, and product improvement; identify opportunities to improve modeling workflows and standards.
• Keep current with surface modeling techniques, CAD technologies, and industry practices.

Requirements

• Proven experience in surface modeling, CAD design, product design, automotive design, aerospace design, or a related engineering field.
• Strong experience with advanced surface modeling and freeform geometry; proficiency in CAD software such as CATIA, Siemens NX, PTC Creo, SolidWorks, Autodesk Alias, or similar.
• Strong understanding of Class-A surfaces, continuity, curvature, surface quality, GD&T, dimensional tolerancing, design standards, and manufacturing processes.
• Experience with solid modeling, wireframe modeling, assemblies, and engineering drawings is preferred.
• Experience with scan data, point clouds, reverse engineering, or surface reconstruction is an advantage.
• Strong understanding of Design for Manufacturing (DFM), Design for Assembly (DFA), product development, and engineering change processes.
• Strong attention to detail, spatial visualization, analytical, technical, and problem-solving abilities.
• Ability to collaborate across technical teams and manage multiple design projects to technical deadlines.
• A bachelor’s degree or diploma in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Design, Product Design, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related field is preferred.
• Relevant CAD, engineering, or professional design certifications are an advantage.
