Role and project scope

Join Tetra Tech's Water Consultancy team to deliver AMP8 and AMP9 projects across the UK.

Work spans wastewater programmes, urban drainage studies, WINEP/SOAF/DWMP initiatives, and capital delivery projects.

Design and delivery

  • Produce mechanical design outputs from feasibility through detailed design and construction support.
  • Size pump and aeration systems and prepare P&IDs, specifications, datasheets, calculations, and procurement documents.
  • Carry out site surveys, coordinate multidisciplinary work, liaise with clients, and produce digital drawings.
  • Deliver constructable designs and site reports, optimise plant performance, and contribute to low-carbon, whole-life solutions.
  • Potential longer-term development includes mentoring junior engineers and progressing toward senior design or project leadership roles.

Core capabilities

  • Demonstrable experience sizing and specifying pumps, aeration, and ancillary equipment, with performance checks and justification.
  • Ability to produce and interpret P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, 3D models or 2D plans, reports, and specifications.
  • Experience coordinating with civil, structural, electrical, and control disciplines and contributing to workshops and HAZOPs.
  • Competence in asset condition surveys, site inspections, witnessing tests, and translating findings into design recommendations.
  • Understanding of CDM duties, design risk assessments, quality processes, and designing safe, maintainable installations.

Qualifications and experience

  • A Mechanical Engineering degree and practical water-industry experience are expected.
  • IMechE-accredited degree is preferred; postgraduate study, pump selection or process plant training, and AutoCAD/Inventor familiarity are desirable.

Work pattern and travel

  • Hybrid working with regional office attendance.
  • Travel to client sites and project locations across the UK is required.

Development and benefits

  • Training, career development, and benefits are offered.
