Full Job Posting

Qualifications and experience

  • Technical diploma, ITI, vocational certificate, trade certificate, or equivalent in mechanical engineering, mechanical fitting, marine mechanical technology, industrial maintenance, or a related technical trade.
  • 3–5 years of practical mechanical experience.
  • Shipbuilding, ship repair, marine engineering, shipyard, offshore, industrial maintenance, manufacturing, or heavy engineering experience is preferred.
  • Hands-on equipment installation, dismantling, maintenance, repair, and reassembly experience is strongly preferred.
  • Relevant mechanical trade certification is preferred; alignment, fitting, rigging, confined-space, working-at-height, or shipyard safety training is advantageous.

Technical knowledge and skills

  • Mechanical fitting, assembly, marine machinery installation, maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting.
  • Knowledge of pumps, motors, gearboxes, bearings, seals, couplings, valves, and mechanical components.
  • Equipment dismantling and reassembly, alignment, levelling, preventive and corrective maintenance.
  • Use precision measuring instruments, hand and power tools, and basic mechanical drawings.
  • Follow equipment manuals and technical instructions; perform lubrication, servicing, basic testing, and commissioning support.
  • Maintain job-card and maintenance documentation and follow shipyard HSEQ practices.

Installation and assembly

  • Install and assemble mechanical machinery and associated systems onboard vessels and in designated shipyard work areas.
  • Fit, position, align, fasten, and connect pumps, motors, gearboxes, valves, couplings, bearings, mechanical drives, and other equipment.
  • Follow approved drawings, manuals, instructions, job cards, and supervisor directions; report dimensional, alignment, interface, or equipment discrepancies.

Maintenance and repair

  • Perform assigned preventive and corrective maintenance on vessel machinery and mechanical equipment.
  • Dismantle components for inspection, cleaning, repair, servicing, or replacement; replace worn or defective parts.
  • Reassemble and lubricate equipment, ensuring components are correctly fitted, tightened, and aligned.
  • Assist in restoring equipment to operational condition within project and maintenance timelines.

Inspection and troubleshooting

  • Inspect for wear, leakage, vibration, abnormal noise, overheating, misalignment, damage, and other defects.
  • Troubleshoot faults using approved tools, measuring instruments, manuals, and established maintenance practices.
  • Report defective components to the Mechanical Supervisor or responsible Engineer; perform approved corrective actions.
  • Escalate significant, recurring, or complex equipment failures requiring engineering assessment.

Alignment, testing, and commissioning

  • Perform fitting, alignment, levelling, measurement, and adjustment during installation and maintenance.
  • Assist with shaft, coupling, motor, pump, gearbox, and equipment alignment; verify clearances and tolerances against applicable instructions.
  • Assist with pre-commissioning checks and functional testing; verify lubrication, fastening, alignment, rotation, leakage, and readiness before start-up.
  • Support engineers and supervisors during commissioning, observe performance, report abnormalities, and perform approved test-related adjustments and rectification.
