Jerry is building an app for managing car and home ownership, expanding from car insurance into adjacent products and asset-related services.

The company is expanding into new markets and needs analysis to support decisions about product lines, marketing channels, and headcount.

Role overview

The Strategic Finance Manager reports to the VP of Finance and partners with functional leaders, the CFO, and the founders.

The role owns the operating model and planning cycle, supports new opportunity analysis, and develops reporting suitable for external diligence.

Operating model and planning

  • Own and expand the driver-based operating model for the base business and new insurance products and business lines.
  • Run annual budgeting and long-range planning, including cadence, assumptions, stakeholder input, and the consolidated executive plan.
  • Own monthly and quarterly forecasts and variance analysis, explaining movements against plan and prior periods.
  • Prepare executive narratives for the CFO, founders, board, and investors.
  • Lead monthly business reviews with functional leaders and translate analysis into decisions.
  • Evaluate planning systems, recommend an option, and own implementation.

Opportunity and investment analysis

  • Model new products, verticals, channels, and partnerships, including market size, economics, capital commitment, and returns.
  • Compare actual results with underwriting assumptions and use findings to inform future decisions.
  • Monitor CAC and payback, policy retention and lifetime value, contribution margin, and related product and channel economics.
  • Support capital markets and investor diligence, modeling, and transaction analysis as needed.
  • Develop frameworks for build, buy, or partner decisions and compare return profiles.

Vendor spend

  • Build business cases before vendor commitments, support negotiation of terms, and give budget owners visibility to manage spending.

Qualifications and working style

  • At least 4 years of relevant experience.
  • Ideally, a combination of 2 or more years in investment banking, corporate development, or private equity and 2 or more years in strategic finance or FP&A at a high-growth company.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting, economics, or a similarly quantitative field.
  • Strong financial modeling skills, including driver-based operating models and three-statement mechanics.
