The Lead Metadata Analyst joins Sainsbury’s Data Trust team and helps improve data discoverability, understanding and trust across the business.
The role contributes to metadata strategy and data literacy and supports trusted, well-governed data.
What you will do
- Drive adoption and continuous improvement of metadata management capabilities.
- Lead Group Data Catalogue work covering data source onboarding, business glossaries, lineage, stewardship, ownership, certification and metadata standards.
- Partner with business and technology stakeholders to improve data asset visibility, understanding and governance.
- Deliver strategic initiatives that improve metadata practices, catalogue adoption and wider data governance.
- Provide SQL and metadata technology expertise, champion best practice, identify automation opportunities and promote trusted data.
Essential criteria
- Advanced SQL capability for querying and analysing complex datasets.
- Experience with enterprise data cataloguing tools such as Alation, Collibra or similar.
- Strong understanding of metadata disciplines including business glossaries, lineage, stewardship, ownership and standards.
- Experience driving catalogue adoption, stakeholder engagement and metadata curation.
- Experience creating reporting and visualisations for metadata coverage, adoption and governance outcomes; examples include Tableau, Power BI and MicroStrategy.
- Data management experience and confidence engaging business and technology stakeholders, with leadership and communication skills.
