Role overview

The Junior Software Engineer joins Vanquis’s Solution Engineering function and develops skills through structured learning, coaching, and practical delivery.

The role supports the design, build, testing, deployment, and ongoing support of software components, APIs, integrations, and automation.

How you will contribute

  • Develop and configure software components, APIs, integrations, and automation with support from experienced engineers.
  • Turn requirements and technical designs into maintainable solutions that meet engineering, architecture, and security standards.
  • Complete development and configuration tasks, fix defects, and make technical improvements.
  • Create unit tests, documentation, design notes, support information, and runbooks; take part in peer reviews and defect investigation.
  • Support release preparation, deployment validation, smoke testing, monitoring, and post-release checks.

Technology environment

  • The environment includes Salesforce configuration and development, objects, fields, relationships, security, declarative automation, Apex, and Lightning components.
  • It also includes MuleSoft, API-led connectivity, REST and SOAP services, data transformation, error handling, and monitoring.
  • Delivery practices include source control, automated testing, CI/CD, controlled environments, peer review, release governance, Agile delivery, and technical documentation.
  • Candidates do not need expertise in every area; the role supports practical learning and development.

Essential experience

  • Genuine interest in software engineering, technology delivery, APIs, integration, Salesforce, or MuleSoft.
  • Some practical exposure to development, configuration, testing, debugging, or technical problem-solving through work, study, personal projects, or training.
  • Ability to follow technical guidance, standards, and defined designs and investigate problems using requirements, system behavior, logs, or test results.
  • Organization, clear communication about task progress and blockers, collaboration, and willingness to learn from feedback.
  • Understanding of confidentiality, secure data handling, and responsible technology delivery.

Useful but not essential

  • Helpful experience includes Salesforce configuration, declarative automation, Apex, Lightning components, MuleSoft, APIs, REST or SOAP, integrations, or data transformation.
  • Awareness of source control, CI/CD, automated testing, deployments, or environment management is useful.
  • Practical labs, portfolio projects, Trailhead badges, structured technology learning, or a Salesforce or MuleSoft foundation credential are helpful.
  • A relevant degree, apprenticeship, or equivalent qualification and awareness of financial services or regulated technology are beneficial, not essential.

Career development

The role is designed to build capabilities for progression toward a Software Engineer position through learning, practical work, coaching, peer review, and certification activity.

Workplace

  • Vanquis describes its working arrangement as flexible hybrid working.

Benefits and culture

  • Benefits include learning resources, volunteering days, enhanced family leave, pension contributions, birthday leave, annual leave, and career development opportunities.
