About the opportunity

PRI seeks an intermediate structural engineer for building, institutional, industrial, and resource-sector projects across Canada.

The role carries designs from concept through construction documents and field support, with growing project ownership and junior staff mentoring.

Projects include new building design, renovations and retrofits, structural assessments, and construction support.

Structural design and analysis

  • Design and analyze steel, concrete, wood, and masonry structures under CSA and National Building Code of Canada requirements.
  • Use ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, STAAD.Pro, or RAM to model and analyze structures; independently check and interpret results.
  • Assess existing structures, including load rating, seismic evaluation, and retrofit design.
  • Prepare design calculations and briefs that meet applicable codes, client requirements, and quality standards.

Construction documents and administration

  • Prepare structural drawings, details, and tender and construction specifications using AutoCAD and/or Revit; coordinate with other disciplines.
  • Respond to information requests, review shop drawings and submittals, and prepare field review and site instruction documents.
  • Conduct construction site visits and document whether work conforms to design intent.
  • Support tendering and bid evaluation with scopes, quantities, and technical cost-estimate input.

Coordination and technical development

  • Coordinate with clients, architects, contractors, and PRI civil, geotechnical, and environmental teams.
  • Track assigned project schedules and budgets, contribute to proposals and fee estimates, and travel to sites across Canada as needed.
  • Mentor junior engineers, EITs, and drafters; participate in design reviews and quality assurance checks.
  • Help maintain structural standards, templates, and tools and share updates to codes and CSA standards.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering and P.Eng. registration or eligibility in at least one Canadian province.
  • At least 4–7 years of structural engineering experience, including independent design of building or industrial structures.
  • Proficiency with structural analysis software such as ETABS, SAP2000, RISA, STAAD.Pro, or RAM, and AutoCAD and/or Revit.
  • Working knowledge of the National Building Code of Canada, provincial variations, and applicable CSA structural standards.
  • Experience preparing construction documents and supporting construction administration, including site reviews.
  • Valid driver’s license and willingness to travel to Canadian project sites, including occasional multi-day trips.

Preferred qualifications

  • Experience across multiple building types or sectors and P.Eng. registration or mobility eligibility in more than one province.
  • Experience in seismic design or retrofit, Revit-based multidisciplinary coordination or BIM, or mentoring junior engineers and EITs.

Why PRI

  • National project portfolio with opportunities for greater ownership and multi-jurisdictional registration support.
  • Collaborative work across structural, civil, geotechnical, environmental, and geomatics disciplines.
  • Competitive compensation, comprehensive benefits, professional development, and support for designation costs.
