Programme overview

MI5's Intelligence and Data Analyst Development Programme is a structured 5.5-year pathway intended to build the skills and experience needed to become a fully trained Intelligence and Data Analyst.

Analysts work with colleagues across MI5, partner agencies, and UK allies to turn complex, incomplete information into insight supporting investigative decisions.

The programme includes structured training, guided practice, and varied postings; postings are assigned according to business need and may vary in length.

Work and development pathway

  • The first stage is four months of full-time, office-based analytical training, including work with multiple data types, structured analytical techniques, advanced tools, and open-ended problems.
  • The first analytical posting lasts two years and involves refining investigative requirements, working with complex datasets, and producing intelligence products for investigations.
  • Later postings total up to three years and may be in investigation analysis delivery teams or non-delivery areas such as training or tradecraft development.
  • Across postings, participants develop coding and querying expertise, adapt to changing tools, technologies, and threats, and share knowledge and refine analysis methods.

Locations and training arrangements

  • Postings may be based in Central or West London, and participants must be prepared and able to work at either location.
  • The initial four-month training period is full-time and office-based.

Salary

  • The listed salary is £40,428; no pay cadence is stated.

About MI5

Requirements

  • Be prepared and able to work at either Central or West London location, as postings may be based at either.
  • Develop analytical tradecraft, sound judgement, technical capability, and the ability to collaborate in a fast-moving investigative environment through the programme.
