Apprenticeship overview
This is a three-year Software Engineering Apprenticeship with training and practical experience supporting the national security mission.
Apprentices rotate through product teams and work with product owners, business analysts, and Agile delivery colleagues.
The programme includes support toward a BSc (Hons) Degree in Digital and Technology Solutions.
Location and working arrangements
- The programme is based in London or Greater Manchester, with travel to training sites in both locations.
- Most learning and work takes place in person because of the secure nature of the work; limited remote study may be available where appropriate.
- The apprenticeship follows a structured academic timetable with set leave periods.
Programme activities
- Help design, develop, and test software solutions that support national security.
- Develop cloud-based solutions using platforms such as AWS and Azure and help expand AI capabilities.
- Gain practical experience with software technologies including Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, GraphQL, Elasticsearch, and Oracle.

- Applicants should have a genuine interest in technology, a desire to learn, curiosity, and a logical approach to problem-solving.
- No formal technical background is required; training and support are provided.
- Successful completion may lead to further career opportunities subject to academic and behavioural standards, organisational need, and required security clearances.
