Programme overview
Three-year Software Engineering Apprenticeship providing training and practical experience on software supporting the UK national security mission.

The programme includes support toward a BSc (Hons) in Digital and Technology Solutions.
Programme work
- Help design, develop, and test software solutions for national security.
- Build cloud-based solutions across platforms such as AWS and Azure and contribute to AI capabilities.
- Gain experience with technologies including Java, C#, Python, TypeScript, PostgreSQL, MongoDB, GraphQL, Elasticsearch, and Oracle.

- A genuine interest in technology and a desire to learn; no formal technical background is required.
- Potential, curiosity, and a logical approach to problem-solving.
- Teamwork, communication, and leadership skills are developed during the programme.
Location and working arrangements
- The programme is based in London or Greater Manchester.
- Most learning and work take place in person because of the secure nature of the work; limited remote learning may be available when appropriate.
- Travel to training sites in London and Greater Manchester may be required.
Salary
- The posting gives London salary figures of £28,556 to £31,154 depending on organisation and a Greater Manchester salary of £29,081.
Development and progression
- Apprentices may attend industry events, earn professional certifications, and access employee networks, mentoring, and technology communities.
- Successful completion may lead to further MI5 or MI6 career opportunities, subject to academic and behavioural standards, organisational need, and required security clearances.
