Programme overview
The Intelligence and Data Analyst Development Programme is a five-and-a-half-year structured pathway to become a fully trained Intelligence and Data Analyst.
Participants work with colleagues across MI5, partner agencies, and UK allies to turn complex, incomplete information into insight supporting investigative decisions.
Pathways are assigned according to business needs and cannot be transferred between programmes.
Training and analytical work
- Complete four months of intensive analytical training combining classroom learning, hands-on practice, and cohort exercises.
- In the first posting, refine investigative requirements, work with complex datasets, and produce intelligence products supporting investigations.
- Complete one or two further postings in investigation delivery, training, or tradecraft development; postings may vary with business needs.
- Develop technical expertise, including coding and querying, and identify patterns and connections relevant to investigations.
Programme expectations
- Commit to the five-and-a-half-year development pathway and its assigned postings.
- Develop analytical judgment, technical capability, and collaborative skills for a fast-moving investigative environment.
Location and working arrangements
- The programme is based in London, with time split across Central and West London locations.
- Remote, hybrid, and home working are not possible; initial four-month training is full-time office-based, 36 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
- Flexible hours and compressed hours may be available during most of the programme, subject to business need; fixed full-time hours apply during initial training.
Salary information
- Salary is listed as £40,428, rising to £43,705 after one year; the pay cadence is not stated.
Programme duration and stages
The typical pathway has three postings, though some may be extended so that participants complete two longer placements instead.

The posting is a structured development programme rather than a conventional single-position vacancy.
