Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and assess underwriting information and complex risk and make recommendations to management.
  • Maintain disciplined adherence to underwriting and service standards.
  • Weighs decisions between underwriting standards and customer needs and expectations.
  • Balances risk relative to return to make effective and acceptable underwriting decisions.
  • Conducting client meetings/agency calls in the field.
  • Develop marketing plans and strategies.
  • Cultivate customer and producer relationships to promote Marine products and services within regional office.
  • Seek out resources to identify and satisfy customer and producer needs.
  • Share pertinent information to support product development, market research and identification of business opportunities between Marine lines of business and other Hartford business units.
  • Effectively utilize the Marine Center to support sales and service objectives.
  • Ensure achievement of financial goals and business plan objectives.
  • Manage change effectively and positively.
  • Utilize systems efficiently and effectively.

Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of commercial Inland Marine production underwriting experience
  • Demonstrated success in developing and maintaining solid relationships with all internal and external business partners
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • An ability to think analytically about business problems, make recommendations and propose solutions.
  • High energy self-starter, who is resilient and has an entrepreneurial spirit
  • Demonstration of solid time, organizational, and desk management skills
  • Goal-oriented and delivers outcomes
  • Ability to challenge the status quo and compete to win
  • Superior technical knowledge and sound decision-making and analytical skills.
  • Ability to travel 25% of the time for territory travel and agency visits
  • Valid driver's license, as company pool car may be provided
  • Position title and level will be determined after careful review of the selected candidate’s qualifications
  • This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Charlotte, NC office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
  • Compensation
  • $78,400 - $186,000
  • The posted salary range reflects our ability to hire at different position titles and levels depending on background and experience.

Location:

  • This role will have a Hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of working in the Charlotte, NC office three days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).
  • Compensation
  • The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
  • $78,400 - $186,000
