Infrastructure Draftsman

Role purpose

Design, modeling, and As-Built drafting

• Develop Civil 3D terrain models, ground surfaces, corridors, cross-sections, and longitudinal profiles.
• Draft storm water, foul sewer, potable water, irrigation, firefighting, and wet and dry utility networks to project and authority standards.
• Perform grading, corridor modeling, alignment creation, and cut-and-fill quantity calculations.
• Prepare As-Built drawings from final survey data, redline markups, and actual installations for road networks, levels, and underground utility assets.

Authority compliance and GIS

• Convert CAD/Civil 3D As-Built drawings into GIS datasets such as Shapefiles and geodatabase formats, with spatial attribute tagging.
• Ensure plans and GIS data meet authority requirements for coordinate reference systems, attribute schemas, and layer naming conventions.
• Identify and resolve utility clashes using Civil 3D clash detection tools and spatial coordination.
• Coordinate with land surveyors and GIS specialists to verify survey points, coordinates, invert levels, and asset attributes before submission.

Standards and quality control

• Maintain drawing registers, revision controls, CAD standard libraries, and GIS attribute metadata.
• Ensure CAD/GIS drawings comply with company standards, layering conventions, sheet setups, and authority drafting frameworks.
• Assist in resolving technical comments and NOC or As-Built rejection feedback from authorities.

Education and experience

• Diploma or Associate Degree in Civil Engineering, Architectural Drafting, GIS, or a related technical field.
• Three to five years of infrastructure drafting experience in roads, grading, wet and dry utilities, and As-Built/GIS authority submissions.
• Proven record preparing and obtaining authority approval for final As-Built drawings and GIS data packages.

Technical skills

• Advanced Civil 3D skills in surfaces, corridors, pipe networks, alignments, grading, and profiles; advanced 2D/3D AutoCAD skills.
• GIS software experience with QGIS, ArcGIS, or AutoCAD Map 3D/Civil 3D GIS tools for export, attribute tagging, and shapefile creation.
• Basic to intermediate Navisworks knowledge for clash detection is an advantage.
• In-depth knowledge of local authority workflows, NOC procedures, and As-Built/GIS submission standards.
• Strong understanding of coordinate systems, georeferencing, survey data exchange, GIS data structuring, and infrastructure construction details.

• Ability to work to tight deadlines and manage multiple authority submittals.
• Strong communication skills for liaising with project engineers, land surveyors, consultants, and municipal representatives.
